~Musings & Theories~

Last but not least are the ever necessary rants/musings/theories etc!
Got some of your own? Let me know!

© Eriol just luvs to sneak up on Syaoran at the worst moments. You can tell by his smile he really relishes it ^.^

© Eriol has made Syaoran blush on occasion or made his heart pound.

© For a whole 2 chapters in the manga Syaoran was preoccupied with finding the owner of a coat left behind..guess who the owner was? And that expression on his face as he held Eriol's coat..

© Ever notice how distraught Syaoran is after Eriol drops him some deep revelation? He doesn't even blush when Sakura addresses him cause he is so deep in thought with Eriol's words. And just how many times is he caught in the manga and anime thinking about what he said.

© If Eriol and Syaoran hooked up then there would be noone 'left out' cause Tomoyo and Sakura could hook up and of course Touya and Yuki are canon and everyone would be happy ^^. Having S+S..Tomoyo remains alone..and Eriol ends up with the pedophile..not a very happy ending I think.

© Syaoran is just so uke-able! He is always blushing, freaking out, and getting saved or used. Eriol is always calm, strong, and in charge of any situation. He has Syaoran wrapped around his little finger (literally in the string scene lol). Plus they do have that 'trademark' height difference in a shounen-ai relationship bwahahah!

© Syaoran's love is too fickle to believe he will just settle with Sakura. Example? Let's take the anime. When he was young he was sweet to Meiling..ok he got over that quick with Yukito, whom he chased for THREE seasons. Then he finds out he doesn't really love Yukito..so now it's all about Sakura. Can a 12 year old really choose who he's going to be with for the rest of his life? Nah..so who is to say that he is incapable of developing something for Eriol later in life?

© How many times do 2 males, who have affinity's for climbing trees, have to climb them to fall in love? Touya and Yuki had their own little tree they always hung around and they are canon. Syaoran was always watching people from trees and Eriol does the same. You don't see either Sakura or Tomoyo do the same and neither are featured in trees in Clamp's artwork as much as the guys are..and if it is just a 'guy' thing to be in trees without any significance, then why isn't Yamazaki a tree monger too?

© People make the argument that since Eriol and Tomoyo look like Fujitaka and Nadeshiko, they are meant to be together. Ok, if we are going to go by looks then the same holds true for Eriol and Syaoran. How? Notice that they make the comparison not only between Fujitaka and Eriol, but also Yukito and Eriol. And who is Yukito with? Touya. And who did Touya look like when he was Sakura's age? Syaoran. So you can almost say that Touya and Yukito are grown up versions of Eriol and Syaoran. Coincidence? Remember too that Touya was chased by Nakuru, & Kaho, while Yukito was loved by Sakura..and despite them all, Yuki and To-ya chose each other..nice sentiment for Eriol and Syaoran's future?

© They both share a love for cooking. In the manga it was commented on even. They are both especially good at sweets. Why is this significant? Everyone knows the way to a man's heart is good food..just ask Yukito ^_~

© Syaoran should have been at least somewhat attracted to Eriol. After all he is his descendant, he worshiped all things Clow. Couldn't he also harbor similar inward appreciation for our mage? Eriol is, after all, one of the most powerful beings in the world. If Syaoran was attracted to Yukito's power..why not Eriol? Sakura herself said Eriol resembled Yuki. I think that if Sakura would not have been on the scene to cloud Syaoran's train of thought, he might have actually grown to like Eriol. Besides the only reason he didn't like him was because he saw him as competition for Sakura, cause otherwise Eriol did absolutely nothing wrong. Syaoran even told Eriol that he did nothing wrong himself, when confronted.

© Syaoran has no problem liking another boy, as it was evident with Yuki. The whole "attracted only to Yue's power" thing has got to be total bull because Ruby Moon (Nakuru) at the time was arguably more powerful than Yue, plus the fact Yue was 'losing' his power because Sakura's was not sufficient. So if Ruby Moon (having the same power of the moon that Yue does) was stronger, why was Syaoran NOT attracted to Nakuru? He did not blush once or even mention her at all. Kaho also had 'some' moon power because of Clow Reed's bell and Syaoran totally distrusted her. That means Syaoran was attracted to just 1 of 3 moon-powered people. So I think Yue's 'power-attraction' explanation was just a way of shaking the boy off and confusing him. Therefore, Syaoran is definite "could fall in love with a boy for real, without some power-attraction excuse" material.

© Eriol 'might' not have a problem liking another boy. There is an odd relationship between Clow and Yue..if that is true then Eriol shouldn't have a problem with it either. An example would be the tender way he treated Yue when he put him to sleep and wiped his memory temporarily, and the affectionate way he refers to Syaoran in the manga. He was not disappointed at all when he realized Yukito loved Touya and he was more than supportive for Yue, knowing how important Clow had been to him. Just to mention a cute parallel in the manga, there is a scene in vol 10 where Clow is telling Yue that his time has come to an end and Yue gets all upset, Clow strokes his face and later pulls Yue close to him for a final kiss on the forehead. At the end of the manga, Vol 12, when Yue finds out Clow was reborn he gets upset, bowing his head on one knee. Eriol smiles, much like Clow did, and places a hand on his head, resting later on his cheek. I thought it was lovely how Eriol was physically as comfy with Yue as Clow was.

© The fact Syaoran and Eriol are related, shouldn't get in the way of anything. Tomoyo loves Sakura and they are related (second cousins). In the manga Syaoran loves Sakura and they are also related. How?! Here is DNA lesson #1 kiddies! Clow split himself into Eriol and Fujitaka. Sakura is Fujitaka's daughter giving her Clow's lineage. Syaoran is Eriol's descendant giving him lineage, so they are both descendant's of Clow, therefore sharing the same blood. In the anime they are not related to each other..but we all know what the original story line was always meant to be ne? >:]

©Another odd thing about the confessions of the manga are the timelines and circumstances of them. For example Syaoran did not confess to Sakura in the manga untill AFTER he heard Eriol was leaving (same way he was all ready to leave for China an the beginning of the arc untill Eriol arrived). Another odd thing is that the whole Eriol/Kaho thing didn't happen untill after Syaoran called and said he couldn't see Eriol off, and this was after Syaoran previously confessed to Sakura (at first it seems like it could be cause he didn't want to see Sakura after he had confessed before, but couldn't it be also because he didn't want to face Eriol? Didn't want to see him leave?). Then the whole Kaho/Eriol confession scene, Kaho clearly initiated the whole thing and even after Eriol acknowledged that he knew how she felt, he still said he wasn't sure how things would turn out in the end, it doesn't sound like someone who is truly in love. During Syaoran's own confession scene, he was walking beside Sakura, building up the nerve..and if he was so focused on her why did his heart beat during his response, when she mentioned Eriol's name? Clamp places small things at certain times that might seem trivial but can really change the whole dynamic. If Syaoran had gone to see Eriol off, would Eriol have accepted Kaho's offer so easily; and if Eriol didn't announce he was leaving, would Syaoran have confessed so promptly to Sakura? Some curious subtle stuff to think about..

© Look at all the pics they have together! I mean in the anime pics Syao-chan always has this mean look on him, I haven't seen one happy pic of them together cause of his attitude. But think of it this way, everyone knows how much CLAMP loves putting hidden meaning into their work. Look at all the colored manga pics they have done that feature Syaoran and Eriol together. They must have done it for a reason right? I mean you don't see any official pics of just Eriol and say.. Tomoyo! One example is the pic where Syaoran and Eriol are in green chinese-style clothes and Eriol is holding a bird and Syaoran a cage. There could be symbolic meaning to it, where Syaoran is holding the cage of his emotions, while Eriol holds the freedom of his love. Why didn't they just make a pic of them with a bird in it's cage or stick Tomoyo in there somewhere instead of Syao-chan? How about the pic where they are fairies and all tied up with strings? Notice how Syaoran is indirectly linked to the girls on the other side of the page and yet he is holding two of Eriol's strings in his hand. Syaoran doesn't look like the happiest camper, like usual, but Eriol is having a ball ^^* I may be reading to much into this, but only CLAMP knows for sure what their hidden meanings might be, if there are any. If you want to see the pics I am talking about go to the pics section ^^

© Just for kicks..The only good thing the horrid CC dubb has done. Noticed what Eriol's new name is? Eli. Now, if you like reading too much into things as much as I do you can look at his name as a blessing. If Eriol and Syaoran got married, his name could be changed to Eriol Li..right? If he ever needed to sign some kind of form..he might sign it E. Li..looks alot like Eli ne? Bwahahahah. So yes me and a few others are relishing in the fact that even though CC tries sooo hard to cut out all the cute relationships in the series..they are inadvertingly advertising our lil couple. Bwhahah and more bwahahah.

© And finally, another reason it could work out between them is because by the end of the anime and manga (contrary to popular belief) Syaoran does NOT hate Eriol anymore. Prove it? Glad you asked..

The expression on Syaoran's face in the anime when he sees Eriol's empty seat and the way he talks to Eriol at his mansion are hints of his changing attitude. He was also the first of the group to suggest going to Eriol's house right after they learned he would be leaving for England in class. He didn't even wonder if he should go or ask if it was ok, he told Sakura flat out, "I'm going, are you coming too?". In other words "I am going to see him whether you come or not."
In the manga, you could see Syaoran's attitude towards Eriol change at his mansion when he found out the real reasons behind everything and probably even felt bad about the way he had treated him. Even more (Yes, that is a blush) when Tomoyo herself pointed out how much Eriol had looked at them with kind eyes. And his manor of speaking changed by the nervous way he asked Eriol questions, trying to be respectful. By the end of the meeting, Syaoran was even volunteering to help bring more treats. The next day at school, Terada announced that Eriol would be leaving and Syaoran's expression was a mixture between surprise and sadness. By the end of the manga Syaoran was even keeping in touch with Eriol, because the day of Eriol's departure Kaho said he called and said he couldn't make it (They made it a point to include that so people would know it was not something out of spite, just inconvenience). So, since Syaoran clearly doesn't hate Eriol anymore, there is no reason to believe they might not become better friends in the future..and from there something more?

Insight from: Emily-chan

© Syaoran's typical reaction to someone he likes is to run away from them, right? Well, he runs away from Eriol after the tree scene, and again when Eriol catches him eavesdropping in the elevator episode.

© The ONLY time Eriol shows any emotion other than his blase/evil smile is when he saves Syaoran from skiing into the tree.
*Resuko's Notes* He is also very composed throughout the series, notice he didn't freak out even when Sakura almost got caught in the avalanche.

© On your site, there are two pics of Eriol and Syaoran playing basketball, one a screencap and the other I think from an artbook, where the two are positioned so that Eriol's hand is in a somewhat... intimate spot. ^^;
*Resuko's Notes* And then people don't believe me when I say Eriol is a perve bunny trying to grope Syaoran every chance he gets. :p

© I was thinking about how Fujitaka found happiness when Nadeshiko fell out of the tree into his arms and then I thought wouldn't it be nice if Syaoran fell out of a tree into Eriol's arms and then I realized that already DID happen (And then he blushed and ran away, just like he used to with Yukito....) ^______^
*Resuko's Notes* OMG the parallel is uncanny, especially since I have seen E+T people make the Fujitaka/Eriol Nadeshiko/Tomoyo comparison and how they look alike, well Tomoyo never fell in Eriol's arms did she, in neither anime or manga..and yet Syao-chan managed to do that scene in both! >:] I mean really, how many times can people fall out of a tree in a series for it not to be significant in some way?

© The E+T fans always say, "Well, the brown-haired girl goes with the brown-haired boy, so the black-haired girl must go with the black-haired boy." Not that that argument holds any water, but using that logic, you would also have to say, "The black-haired girl is in love with the brown-haired girl, so the black-haired boy must be in love with the brown-haired boy."
*Resuko's Notes* Besides if you even take the anime into account Eriol's hair is a deep blue while Tomoyo's is a purple-ish grey :p and that whole hair color thing reminds me of the seat thing. Syaoran sat behind Sakura in class and they fell in love, so then Eriol who sat behind Tomoyo must fall in love..but Tomoyo loves Sakura (from way in the beginning of the series) and she sits next to her, guess who sits next to Syaoran? Eriol.. so really..reasoning like that goes nowhere.

© By the way, Eriol and Syaoran are also both rich, quiet, and kind -- the main "evidence" for the E+T coupling -- AND they both love sweets. So there.
*Resuko's Notes* Well Syaoran is more prone to bouts of anger and macho-ism but in the last arc he was quite quiet and polite (except in battle). Tomoyo might be rich, like Eriol, but the big difference is their pasts. Eriol is rich because of his magical ancestry (being Clow) and the same goes for Syaoran (the Li Clan)..meanwhile Tomoyo has no magic and even Sakura doesn't have a magical past especially in the anime (even though in the manga Fujitaka is half of Clow and her brother has some abilities..they never had any knowledge of a magical history, unlike Syaoran and Eriol who were born into a life of sorcery).
