Who are Ernest and Gareas?

Gareas and Ernest are both pilots of mechas called 'Goddess' in the series Megami Kouhosei. Their job along with the 3 other pilots is to defend mankind's last planet, Zion.

Why Ernest and Gareas?

Simple. Because they are somewhat canon in the series. Ernest is an empath and he has a long history with Gareas. They met as candidates and Gareas became both Ernest's inspiration to become a pilot and his first true friend. Years later the two are very close, even though Gareas is involved with his repairer, Leena, and Ernest is secretly loved by his own repairer, Tune. Even so it is commented on by Tune that Ernest's heart belongs to Gareas and no other. On the flip side Gareas showed the most emotion out of everyone after Ernest's accident to the point of wishing he had died himself. Their bond is so strong that Gareas trusts Ernest's little brother unconditonaly based on the sole fact that they are related. This is why I believe their relationship transcends time and tragedy.
